More About the Artist

Sylvia Quinn Home (pron. Hume) is an artist/designer, living and working in the Scottish Borders. She was born in Meirionydd, mid-Wales and brought up on Anglesey, one of seven children of Welsh and Irish parents. She left home in the late 1960's to attend a Pre Dip, and Art and Design course in Bournemouth.

She lived in Holland for a time and returned to England to find work, eventually attending a course in Interior Design at the London College of Furniture.

After working with the architects D.E.G.W. she married a Scot and had the first of two children, moving to the Scottish Borders to become a full-time mother. That was in the early 1980's and in the ensuing years she slowly developed her skills in watercolour, oils and acrylic painting.

Selling paintings was difficult, but she had some success with her range of cards, and started her own company Bassendean Arts Ltd. in 2001.

'Apart from the pleasure of painting I have discovered the joys of teaching and through that, a love of life-drawing. The community art is opening up all sorts of opportunities for connecting and drawing out the creativity in children and adults and I'm looking forward to where this will lead me in the future'.
