I have an interest in the British culture and philosophy as expressed through our Celtic and Gaelic heritage, particularly with reference to symbols.
The 'four quarters' of the earth and the 'whole' being greater than the sum of the parts, can be found in the Irish quartering of the land of Eire with the Kingdom of Tara being the fifth, the sum of the other kingdoms as I understand it.
The cross is made up of four quarters, when described by lines it demonstrates the four directions and becomes the traditional symbol of 'matter', the magical moment of the first weave.
It's an ongoing enjoyable process, playing with the forces of energy that lines exhibit, especially coloured lines, and observing how that energy changes when the lines are criss-crossed or woven to define and create the illusion of enclosures and something other.
