Often, the choice of objects for 'still life' is intuitive and their arrangements unconsciously and sometimes consciously symbolic. Although they are realistic, the paintings are not smothered by the desire for photographic realism.
By attending to the object's innate simplicity and iconic uniqueness, it's that, that is apparent in the finished result, with the paintings appearing 'more-real'.
